Bible Question:  Thank you for your help Makarios, but can you help me with my other question? Does "not being part of this world" include Holidays, Birthdays, etc.?

Julia

Bible Answer:  Greetings Julia,

I apologize; you were asking if "not being part of this world" included Holidays and Birthdays, etc..

It was actually written in the Law of the Lord (2 Chronicles 2:4; 8:13; 31:3) that festivals and celebrations be offered continually (1 Chronicles 23:31) before the Lord (Ezekiel 46:3). In the New Testament, Colossians 2:16 says, "Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day--" so that no one could act as a judge in regards to these types of things.

Now, there are people who do not feel comfortable taking part in certain elements of Holidays, such as Halloween, or drinking during New Years, or getting caught up in all of the commercialism of Christmas. But I have always considered that as a matter of personal conscience: even though Col. 2:16 indicates that we are free from being judged by other believers for partaking in such Holidays, we may not be free from the judgment of the Holy Spirit inside of us (1 Cor. 6:12). So, if the Holy Spirit is leading you to abstain from certain elements of Holidays, then no one can judge you from abstaining from them either.

I pray that this helps!

Blessings to you,

Makarios
