Bible Question:
How can we claim John 10:30 speaks to Jesus being "one" in nature with the Father, yet John 17:22 refers to believers being "one" in purpose? |
Bible Answer: RML, I hope I understand your question. There are many passages that show the Son and Father are one, including John 17:11, where He wanted His disciples to be one. Jesus was pointing out the He and His Father were the example of being one. John 10:30 is another example, as you pointed out. Then in John 17:20-23, He prays for us, that we would be one. In verse 21, the Father is in the Son and the Son is in the Father. (Christ is in us (Col 1:27, Rom 8:9-10) In verse 23 we are to be in complete unity, so the world know (believe (vs 21) the Father sent the Son, and are loved by the Father. Our unity with each other is to show that the Father and Son are one, and that we are also one with God. The world is our neighbor, and we are to love them, second only to God. When Satan heard this prayer, he knew his mission was to cause divisons. It is too bad we are not huddled together the in hands of the Father and Christ. Searcher a.k.a. Steve Butler |
