Bible Question:
HeirofGod, What does the term "world" mean in John 15:19 and 17:11-16 and how/why is it different from the term "world" in John 3:16? Sam Hughey |
Bible Answer: John 15:19 and John 3:16 are talking about the same world. John 17:11-12 is talking about the physical world like Earth. Jesus was saying that after he leaves we would still be here in the physical world and that God would keep us from evil instead of taking us out of the physical world. Then it changes to the world that the first two scriptures were talking about. Since satan is the prince of this "world system" people that abide under him are called the world or the unsaved. Then there are the people who have accepted Christ and we have come out of the "world system" to the freedom and liberty in Christ. John 3:16 is telling us how God loved the people that were in bondage of the world system that he gave his son Jesus to die for our sins so that who ever accpeted this sacrifice could come out of the system into liberty. I hope this helps and maybe some of the others can give more clarity. |
