Bible Question: I hae always wondered how a good man, a man who has worked hard, taking good care of his family, done good work at his job, helped others, and generally an asset to society would not be allowed into the gates of heaven just because he hasn't proclaimed Jesus as his Saviour. Not saying that he didn't believe in Jesus, but spoke of him little and left earth without my knowint what he beleived. I am speaking of my own father. He never went to Church, and I don't recall him ever speaking to me of Jesus and what he meant to him. He was brought up by a Christian women, so I expect he heard much about Jesus in his younger years. |
Bible Answer: The word of God is very clear about this. John 14:6 NKJV "Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. " The bible is also very clear that we are saved by grace through faith in Christ and not of anything that we can do ourselves. We cannot obtain salvation through our works. Ephesians 2:8-10 KKJV 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works , which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Regardless of how good a person may be in our eyes, we are all sinners (Romans 3:23). We cannot use our interpretation of what is right or wrong as our guide because many times they are in disagreement with what God's word teaches us. The fact that you do not recall your Father teaching you about Jesus or never heard him proclaim Him has no meaning in regards to your Fathers relationship with God. Many born again Christians can be placed in the same category. I would also argue that many people who proclaim Jesus have not truly accepted Him. We are also taught this through the word of God in Matthew 7:21 "Not everyone who says to Me,'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven". Your desire to know that your earthly Father was saved is understandable. I don't even know you but my heart truly goes out to you regarding this issue. All Christians should be so concerned about their family members and others as well. There will come a day that there are no second chances. I hope this helps. I understand your concern and I think you simply have to place your trust in Christ on all things including this issue. It may very well be that your Father was saved. Although it would have been nice for you to have heard this from him, it is not what determines his salvation. God bless you and I pray God send His abounding peace on you! Steve |
