Bible Question: What did Jesus mean when he said on the cross why his father forsake him? |
Bible Answer: Hi, younglos! Jesus Christ, the Word, became incarnate to rescue man from sin (Romans 6:23)... when John the Baptist introduces Him to those about him, he rightfully calls Him the Lamb of God (John 1:29); in Jesus Christ God is redeeming the world, Jesus is the Suffering Servant who takes onto Himself the sins of the world (Isaiah 52:13 thru 53:12); Jesus, while explaining to His disciples this relationship that He shares with the world, alluded to Moses' serpent (John 3:14-21)... We know that God is Light and in Him there is no darkness (1 John 1:5), and we know that God is Spirit (John 4:24) and that Jesus is Spirit (2 Corinthians 3:17); but, as the Lamb of God, Jesus is also a Man (John 1:1, 14)--the Lamb of God that came to offer His Life for the ramson of many (Matthew 20:28)--must be separated from the Father for the very first time of their existence (John 16:32)... so, since God and Jesus are Spirit they can exist beyond our comprehension (Omnicience, Omnipotence, Omnipresence), but because God is Light and no darkness (sin/unrighteousness) can exist in Him, Jesus, when taking on the sin of the world, would be separated or forsaken by the Father for an instant (micro-nanosecond or even smaller!--remember that to God time is inconsequential: 2 Peter 3:8)... clearly Jesus was never rejected by the Father at any particular time... His separation from the Father was as consequence of the purging of our sin! God Bless! Angel |
