Bible Question:
Reading John11:1-6 Reading this chapter taking my time to understand each verse...so here is my question.I believe that Jesus knew that Lazarus was dead verse 6,when Jesus said that this sickness was for the glory of God.Means that the gloryof God manifested in the resurrection of dead Lazarus would show to be the Glory of the Son. I believe that Martha was encouraged when the messenger returned that Jesus would stay two more days. For Jesus love Martha and Mary and Lazarus so very much. I believe that Jesus stayed two more days because he walked in confidence of someone who really trusted God. He does things according to the timming of the will of God not man. Thanks |
Bible Answer: Hi sweet, I think that it is good that you realize that God's timing and will are not necessarily the way we would choose. However, when you say that you think that Martha and Mary were encouraged I think you may have read into the passage what is not there. They may have indeed been encouraged by the fact that Jesus said that the sickness of Lazarus was not unto death and that God would be glorified in it. That seems to have been said in the messenger's presence. But the fact that Jesus stayed two days longer in the place where He was, did not meet with their approval as shown in verses 21 and 32. The fact that Jesus waited two days was enough to cause His disciples to think that He was afraid of going back because of the fear of being stoned to death. But actually, He was waiting for him to die. That sounds heartless, because Jesus loved Lazarus. But I believe that from the time that (He) heard that he was sick, verse 6, He knew that God would be glorified and that the Father would hear (Him), verse 41. They were to believe that the Father had sent Him and all men were to believe in Him. Jesus was the Teacher. Mary and Martha knew that if this Man had been there this man Lazarus could have been kept from dying, verse 37. But his death was in the will of God so that Father and the Son could be glorified. Jesus is the resurrection and the life and he/she who believes in Him shall live even if he/she dies. John 11:25. John 11:26, "and everyone who lives and believes in Me/ shall never die. Do you believe this?" From the heart, Ray |
