Bible Question:
May you be blessed too my friend Ed, Yes the Quran teaches that he is sinless and I should accept his word, but if you are going to accept the Quran, then by that argument alone he is not son of God Quran 9:31 They take their priests and their anchorites to be their lords in derogation of Allah, and (they take as their Lord) Christ the son of Mary; yet they were commanded to worship but One Allah. there is no god but He. Praise and glory to Him: (Far is He) from having the partners they associate (with Him). I believe that his words have been misinterpreted, and some of them may not really be the words of Jesus himself but they were later added. James Dunn in his book The Evidence for Jesus writes: "If they were aprt of the original words of Jesus himself, how could it be that Only John picked them up and None of the others? Call it scholarly skepticism if you like, but I find it almost incredible that such sayings should have been neglected Had they been known as a feature of Jesus' teaching. If the 'I ams' had been part of the original tradition, it is very hard indeed to explain why none of the other three evangelists made use of them." (page 36) I believe the "I ams" he is referring to are: John 8:12, John 10:7, John 11:25, and John 15:1 About the cleansing thru Jesus, are you saying the Father does not love us enough or we are not important enough to pray to him directly that we need to pray to Jesus first? And more importantly did not Jesus set an example for us to Pray to the Father? And What about the prophets and mankind before Jesus? They have been praying to God direct all this time, why now after hundreds of years do we suddenly need cleansing before praying to God? God doesn't love us enough that we can ask him as the Father for something, like Jesus did so often, and did he not say that the Father is greater than him? and he even clarified that the Father is not only HIS father, but anyone can call God "Father", Matthew 23:9 "Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven. And more to the point: John 20:17 Jesus *said to her, "Stop clinging to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, 'I ascend to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God.'" If Jesus is God, that means the Father is God of God, correct? How can God have a God? This bewilders me! Now on another note You said "Notice there was many witnesses present and if this were not true secular history would have recorded this attempted lie. " Please do not be offended, I am only presenting the evidence, But does not the Bible teach that the Earth is 10,000 years old? The secular world deny this claim, claiming the earth is billions of years old? The Quran makes no such claim about this young Earth. Does not the Bible claim there was a worldwide flood? The Quran makes no such claim that it was a worldwide flood (again the concept of a worldwide flood is denied in the scientific world). I suggest you should take a look, I think you will find the most beautiful stories in the Quran which you have also read in the Bible. Stories of David, Solomon, Lot, Job, Noah, and so on, except Solomon never had 1000 wives and concubines, nor did he make a temple for the worship of idols (sinless), neither did Lot insestually seduce his daughters night after night (sinless), nor did David commit adultery (sinless), and Noah never got drunk (sinless). These prophets were chosen because they were righteous people. They would never commit such attrocities as the Bible depicts. Infact there are many scientific truths in the Quran such as: All life originated from water. 21:30 Do not the Unbelievers see that the heavens and the earth were joined together (as one unit of creation), before we clove them asunder? We made from water every living thing. Will they not then believe? The earth is round 21:33 It is He Who created the Night and the Day, and the sun and the moon: all (the celestial bodies) swim along, each in its rounded course. These are some of the reasons I am still disbelieve in the divinity of Christ. Isa |
Bible Answer: It is late at night, so I will attempt to answer some of your questions, though I may not be able to answer all. "About the cleansing thru Jesus, are you saying the Father does not love us enough or we are not important enough to pray to him directly that we need to pray to Jesus first? And more importantly did not Jesus set an example for us to Pray to the Father?" This is an excellent question. I believe that God is holy and pure and we are not. As a result, our sin presents a barrier to direct intimate communication with God the Father. But because God loves us more than we can fully comprehend, he sent his Son, Jesus to pay the penalty for those sins. But because he respects us as human beings, and because he gave us free will, we aren't forced to accept that free gift of Jesus Christ's death on the cross. It's available, but we aren't forced to take it. If, however, you do accept that gift, Christ's death is sufficient to bring down that barrier and enable direct communication with God the Father. That's why Jesus said "No man cometh unto the Father but by me." Because Jesus was sinless and perfect, he NEVER HAD that barrier so he was able to directly communicate with God in prayer. And before Jesus's death, people were able to communicate with the Father because they trusted in the coming of the Messiah and that he would take away their sins and enable that communication and that faith was enough to ensure not only direct communication with God but also gain entrance to heaven. Hopefully that answers the first question. "If Jesus is God, that means the Father is God of God, correct? How can God have a God? This bewilders me!" I admit, it is confusing even to me sometimes. The concept of the Trinity can become mind-boggling at times but I am convinced it is the Truth. When Jesus came down to Earth as God in the form of a man, he was like us in every way, but without sin. That means he had free will, just like us. But as God, he was incapable of sin. So that means that as a man, he could cry out to his God, just like we can. But I have to point out, that in the verse you used as an example, he is still maintaining his status as a diety when he says "I ascend to My Father and your Father". When you look at the intent of what he is saying, he is making the statement something that Mary can relate to. He is showing a similarity - Both are human and both worship and serve the same God. While Jesus was still God (the Son), he served God (the Father). In order to make it a bit easier to understand I'll make an analogy. My body serves my mind. My body does what my mind tells it to. But my mind is still part of me, just like my body is part of me. It's the same way with the Trinity. Jesus served the Father even though he was God. Hopefully that helps a bit to make that a wee bit clearer. "But does not the Bible teach that the Earth is 10,000 years old? The secular world deny this claim, claiming the earth is billions of years old? The Quran makes no such claim about this young Earth." You're right, the Quran doesn't teach that the Earth is very young. But many people who wish to discredit the Bible make the assumption that the Bible teaches that the Earth is only 10,000 or so years old. This is not the case. The Bible does not say that the Earth was actually created during the seven days of creation. It says that "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." It does NOT say WHEN specifically other than 'In the beginning'. So no, the Bible does not make the claim that the Earth is 10,000 years old. However, it does make the claim that mankind is about 10,000 years old. As for man being created out of water and the planets being round, I fail to see how that proves the truth of the Quran or the failing of the Bible. The Bible doesn't really say one way or the other about the shape of the planets, probably because at the time, people didn't need to know that the world was round. No one was trying at the time to go around the globe in a boat. So there isn't any reason for God to have revealed that. But any intellegent sailor on a very large lake or the ocean could have figured out that the Earth is round by watching the bottom of the boat disappear first until only the mast was visible. As for man being made of water, as opposed to dust, most of the elements and minerals that compose the body can be found in common dirt. And that dirt could quite possibly have been wet, especially because of the fact that the Garden of Eden was fed by four rivers. But this is beside the point. The main focus of the Bible is Christ's death on the cross, his resurrection, and his payment for our sins, not how the world was created. That's why there are four separate books of the Bible about Jesus and his life and death but only a short section at the beginning of one book on the creation. |
