Bible Note: To understand Hebrews 6:1-6 you have to back up to Hebrews 5:12-14. The writer says here that Christians who need to be reminded of the first principles of the oracles of God are imuture babies and still need milk because they are UNSKILLED IN THE WORD OF RIGHTEOUSNESS. According to Romans 10:1-4 a person can have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. According to v.3 you can be IGNORANT OF GOD'S RIGHTEOUSNESS and be seeking your own. Our righteousness is like filthy rags. You need to submit to God's righteousness which is clearly a gift. Romans 9:30-33 says that the Gentiles obtained righeousness simply by faith but religous people miss it. To the religeous mind Jesus is a stumbling Stone, a Rock of offense. Don't stump your tow. The writer of Hebrews is saying in v.6:1-6 you have laid the foundation now MOVE ON TO MUTURITY. REPENT FROM DEAD WORKS. Dead works is your striving to obtain your own righteousness. Submit to God's righteousness by faith. You have already laid the foundation now move on to muturity. |
