Subject: Lay down my life? Am I a shepherd? |
Bible Note: Hi mommapbs, I believe that John 10:15-17 says that He lays down His life not only for His nation, the Jews, but also for those outside of that fold, the Gentiles. Now when you ask whether He died for His enemies or only His friends who will do as they are commanded, you're asking whether He died for everybody, for all. Or did He lay down His life for those whom He chose? It sounds like a familiar question/debate. I think that a comparison of John 10 and 15 shows that the Father loved the Son for laying down His life. If we as shepherds die for our flocks just as the Good Shepherd died for His flock gathered together to Himself, certainly God would say that there is no greater love. I don't think that dying the death of a missionary martyr is necessary for "approval" by God, but it definitely is a sign of great love, just as He loved us. That's my bit of dialogue.
