Bible Note: Dear Jeff, I hadn't seen your response, only Momma's. I've been pretty busy lately. I'm taking time away from other things just to reply to my posts and e-mails. Consequently, I have to be selective about my reading. I don't often have the luxury to go past what is showing on the front page when I check SBF! Take care, son, with that sensitivity. It is not of virtuous origins either. :-) Hyper-calvinism is an unbiblical, theological perspective denying human responsibility. It is just as unbiblical as the more commonly held theological perspective that denies the Sovereignty of God. I am of neither persuasion. As to the Scriptures you requested, I've placed a few below. Christ is the Lord God (John 1:1). This cannot be earned, assigned, or imbued. It is an attribute. In Christology we understand that the offices of prophet, priest, and king are, indeed, declared by God the Father Himself at a moment in time in redemptive history. All authority flows from God. The only thing human beings can do is to believe -- heads, hearts, and habits -- the truth. This is made possible by the divine empowerment of the Holy Spirit. In Him, Doc "As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill." I will tell of the decree: The LORD said to Me, "You are My Son; today I have begotten You." (Psalms 2:6-7) He shall cry to Me, "You are my Father, my God, and the Rock of my salvation." And I will make Him the firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth. My steadfast love I will keep for Him forever, and My covenant will stand firm for Him. (Psalms 89:26-28) They shall dwell in the land that I gave to My servant Jacob, where your fathers lived. They and their children and their children's children shall dwell there forever, and David My servant shall be their Prince forever. (Ezekiel 37:25) And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed, nor shall the kingdom be left to another people. It shall break in pieces all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, and it shall stand forever. (Daniel 2:44) He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to Him the throne of His father David, and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end. (Luke 1:32-33) But of the Son He says, "Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of Your kingdom." (Hebrews 1:8) And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me." (Matthew 28:18) |
