Bible Note: Hi, John... That wasn't precisely what I was thinking. The tendency is to get focused on the question itself, rather than to think about its implications. At any rate, most of these sorts of questions, even when they seem basic, aren't the fault of the questioner. I remember reading that the Roman Catholic church insisted that it needed pictures and statues and the like was because the people were so woefully ignorant, they could understand nothing more. John Calvin responded to that by saying, if the church had been doing what it was supposed to be doing, the people would not be so ignorant. Asking a question about the nature of God is a very blessed thing, for that is the beginning of wisdom. It is the church that should be embarrassed for failing to properly instruct them.
