Bible Question:
Why does the voice from heaven, at Mark 1:11,say "You are my beloved Son", if Jesus already knew that He was? I am well aware that Matthew, and Luke say "this is", so did Mark get it wrong?, or perhaps the voice was for benifit of John the Baptist, and others who herd it, I wonder. Doc, I await your words of wisdom with eager anticipation |
Bible Answer: Dear Ebrain, Sorry... just have a very short moment to slap out a response. Yes, the right question is: To whom were the words spoken and for what purpose? There is another instance in Christ's ministry where this happened. Track down the prophecy from Isaiah that was being fulfilled. There is a very old heresy that taught that Christ divested some of the attributes of diety when He became a man. Athanasius was a brilliant student of the Bible -- although only a humble deacon -- gave some of the best responses to these heretical doctrines. We are, consequently, the beneficiary of the Nicene and Athanasian Creeds. In Him, Doc |
