Bible Question:
Might this verse be a source of accountability for mankind? Also recall Jesus' question: "But who do YOU (emphasis mine) say that I am?" (Luke 9:20) I know that this verse gives the disciples advance warning of the trial and crucifixion of Christ, but might Jesus want us to ponder ("Let these words sink into you ears") this as well: that Jesus is still "on trial" in than hands of men today? What will we do with Him? "Why do you call Me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say? (Luke 6:46) |
Bible Answer: Hi mommapbs, Your question of "What will we do with Him?" is connected in my mind with "How will we understand Him?" We have heard and read the words of Jesus and hear the word of God in our churches. We know today that Jesus was God in the flesh and today we could not crucify again our Lord. Yet, when I look in their contexts the verses that you presented here, it points out to me that we still can't understand God fully. He is too high for us. In other words, we today ask "How can Jesus be God and yet the Christ of God?" How can He be God and Man at the same time? And in the context of the Jewish leaders and our leaders today the question is still "How can this Man make Himself out to be God? How can a Man not be a sinner?" In Luke 9:41-44 Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit and the people were amazed at the greatness of God. They were marveling at all that He was doing. (In other words, they were seeing that He was God). In Luke 9:20-22 Peter says that He is the Christ of God. And even though both passages talk of how the Son of Man must suffer many things and be delivered into the hands of men, there is that question of "How can we understand this great God, Christ of God, and Son of Man?" Mommapbs, I find your references of Luke 6:46 and Luke 9:43 to be a perfect match for comparison verses. We also have Matthew 7:21 to compare and contrast as we think of the Lord of heaven.
