Bible Question:
Does anyone know a passage about "Making God your own". I guess what I'm looking for is something that would help explain to youth that there is more to being a Christian than just going to church because thats what you parents have always done. I know thats not very descriptive of what I want but if anyone can think of a verse to go with that topic I would be extremely grateful. Thanks, Chris |
Bible Answer: Hello, Chris. We cannot in any sense "make God our own" and should not set our eyes upon this impossible goal. God is the sovereign Lord of heaven and earth. He is the Creator God. We are the created. It is thus impossible for the creature to make the Creator his own. It is thus our call as penitent sinners to become children of God through regeneration, made possible by God's grace through faith in His only Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, whose redemptive work on the cross makes us His, the sheep of His pasture. We cannot make God our own, but by His redeeming grace He can make us His own. Chris, you might stress to your youth that merely "going to church" or "joining a church", even though important, will not of themselves bring about salvation. Salvation is wholly of God. There is no other way to be saved than by His grace through faith in His Son. One must be regenerated, born again. See John 3. --Hank |
