Bible Question: who was Mary magalene before she met jesus? |
Bible Answer: My own view of Mary Magdalene before she met Jesus (and there isn't any Scripture evidence) that she was a rich widow, living in Migdal on the shores of Lake Galilee, probably somewhat depressed hence the evil spirits no doubt menopausal, seeking for a cause to espouse. She found in Jesus that cause. Augustine calls her "The apostle to the apostles" and I believe she was a strong evangelist. The church couldn't cope with this and so identified her with the prostitute who washed Jesus' feet- but there is no evidence for this. I suspect she was a very repectable matron and needs rehabilitating in the 21st.c! |
