Subject: recognition of authority is faith |
Bible Note: My subject on this note is authority in relation to faith. It is my position that the reason that Jesus marveled at this man's faith is because he recognized Jesus' authority. The centurion saw that Jesus authority was so great that he was not even worthy to be in his presence, and that because of his authority he could simply command the sickness to be gone and it would have to obey, because he knew how authority worked, as in verse 8 it says: "For I also am a man placed under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to this one, 'Go!' and he goes, and to another, 'Come!' and he comes, and to my slave, 'Do this!' and he does it." He knew that if Jesus said do it it had to be done. Jesus' faith was also grounded in the fact that he knew his own authority as in Luke 8: 22-25 when Jesus commands the winds and the rains. Jesus rebuked the disciples asking them where is your faith? He realized that they didn't have confidence or assurance in his authority or their own authority. In Acts 3 Peter and John heal a lame man. when asked to give alms Peter said to the man, " Silver and Gold I do not have, but what I do have I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk" What did Peter have? He had an assurance of Christ's authority in his life which had been given to him in Luke 9:1. Faith is the assurance of things hoped for and the evidence of things yet unseen. God speaks through his word and we recognize his authority, and we have faith because we recognize. God's word was an assurance to abraham and Joseph who never saw what was promised, but they knew who had spoke and they didn't question his authority, because when they recognized his authority they were assured. consider this and feel free to continue on this subject.- christlives1999 |
