Bible Note: Hi Timothy Paul, Your point about it being Jesus speaking here rather than Luke is a good one. The NKJ reads, Luke 7:31, "And the Lord said, ' To what then shall I liken the men of this generation, and what are they like?'" The marginal note informs that the NU, M omit And the Lord said. Even with those words absent, we can know that the Lord is speaking here. And I would say that it is the triune God speaking here. For the previous verses are talking about how the people had been baptized by John and had acknowledge God's justice. But, on the contrary the Pharisees had rejected God's will for themselves and were not being baptized. Then come the words, "To what then shall (I) compare the men of this generation, and what are they like?" I am glad that God will judge me. For His judgment is true. John 8:15, "You people judge according to the flesh; I am not judging anyone. But even if I judge, (My) judgment is true; for I know where I came from, and where I am going; but you do not know where I come from, or where I am going." John 7:24 says "Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment." The rulers didn't judge correctly and they did not know that He was the Christ. We as Christians should know for certain where this Man was from, for the Father sent Him. From the heart, Ray |
