NASB | Luke 7:20 When the men came to Him, they said, "John the Baptist has sent us to You, to ask, 'Are You the Expected One, or do we look for someone else?'" |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Luke 7:20 So the men came to Jesus and said, "John the Baptist sent us to You to ask, 'Are You the Expected One (the Messiah), or should we look for someone else?'" |
Bible Question:
When John the Baptist sent the question to Jesus if He was the One, or if they should continue to look for another, did John the Baptist really not know that Jesus was the Messiah, or was he just not pleased with the kind of ministry that Jesus was leading? It seems like he (John TB) would definitely know that Jesus was the Messiah, since when he baptized Him, the Holy Spirit settled upon Him (John 1:32). Thanks, reilly |
Bible Answer: Hi Reilly1041, Perhaps John the baptist was concerned about the report concerning Jesus. Luke 7:16 says that they were calling Him a great Prophet, and saying that "God has visited His people." John the baptist had witnessed that Jesus was the Son of God and the Lamb of God. Was there yet another that he did not know? I think that the writer of the gospel records that Jesus was One who was more than a Prophet. He and the Father were one. From the heart, Ray |
