Bible Question:
The Books of Moses are very detailed in their explanation of the procedures of worship and daily life. This was a way of life that God gave to His children if they were to live in His chosen way of life. I believe that God's will and law does not change with time, it is everlasting. How significant then are these procedures to us as christians? If not important, does this mean that the Israelites engaged in practices that were of no value religiously? |
Bible Answer: All Your commandments are truth. Psalm 119:151b Whoever then breaks or does away with or relaxes one of the least [important] of these commandments and teaches men so shall be called least [important] in the kingdom of heaven, but he who practices them and teaches others to do so shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. (AMPLIFIED Matthew 5:19) 'Why were the Ten Commandments necessary for God's new nation? At the foot of Mount Sinai, God showed his people the true function and beauty of his laws. The commandments were designed to lead Israel to a life of practical holiness. In them, people could see the nature of God and his plan for how they should live. The commands and guidelines were intended to direct the community to meet the needs of each individual in a loving and responsible manner." (Life Application Study Bible, Tyndale House, 1996) NASB Psalm 119:142 Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, And Your law is truth. NASB Psalm 119:151 You are near, O LORD, And all Your commandments are truth. NASB Psalm 19:9b The judgments of the LORD are true; they are righteous altogether. New King James Version Psalm 19:7-11 7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; 8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes; 9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. 10 More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. 11 Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward. |
