NASB | Luke 4:13 ¶ When the devil had finished every temptation, he left Him until an opportune time. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Luke 4:13 ¶ When the devil had finished every temptation, he [temporarily] left Him until a more opportune time. |
Bible Question: What is the "Opportune time"? Do you think it may be when Jesus had his time of doubt in the garden alone, or when he returned and could have easily have had the apostles fight the gaurds to save him. Or might it be in his moment of doubt on the cross? "Father why hast thou foresaken me?" |
Bible Answer: There was no other specific more opportune or favorable time. Satan simply tried - as the amplified version states here - [the complete cycle of] temptation and failed, so he decided to back off and try again some other time. Much like a retreat and regroup after a failed military campaign. |
