Bible Question: What is the difference between the Holy Ghost and the Holy Spirit? explain |
Bible Answer: Hi, Santee... It is simply a matter of nomenclature. At one time in English the words ghost and spirit were fairly interchangeable. Some of that survives down to us in the King James Version of the Bible. You'll even find the same word translated ghost and spirit in the same sentence. Today the word ghost carries more of the superstitious meaning of a disembodied, human spirit. Consequently, as Christians, we more frequently use the word spirit in speaking of that which is immaterial; i.e., not physical. When it is capitalized or preceded by the word Holy, then we are specifically speaking of the third person of the Trinity. In Him, Doc |
