Bible Question:
Was Adam God's son? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Louise! Yes, Adam was God's son since God created Adam (Genesis 2:7) directly from the dust of the ground. God presided over this creation of his 'son', Adam, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and Adam became a living being. However, we all know what happened to Adam and the fall of man. In a sense, we are all God's 'sons', since He formed us in the womb (Jer. 1:5). But we must take note that our relationship to God as our Father and Creator is so much different from the relationship that Jesus has with the Father in heaven. Jesus is the Son of God. However, Jesus' relationship is different because He is the fullness of the Deity Himself! (Colossians 2:9) So if Jesus is God Himself, then how can He be the Son of the Father? No name or title of Christ has been so misunderstood as this one.. 'Son' in reference to Christ means 'of the order of'. We can see examples of this in reference to prophets "son of the prophets" ('in the order of the prophets' 1 Kings 20:35), or "son of the singers" ('in the order of the singers' Nehemiah 12:28). Likewise, the phrase Son of God means "of the order of God," and represents a claim to undiminished Deity. --Nolan |
