Bible Question: In my Bible, the NASB (given to me by my wife, JB, in 1997), in Luke 3:23, it say that, "...Jesus Himself was about thirty years of age, being 'supposedly'the son of Joseph, ...", and it goes on to give His genealogy from Josep back to David and back to Adam. "Supposedly"? What is this? Certainly,"supposedly" is not a Hebrew word, and there is no question that Jesus, Himself, is the Son of God and in lineage (earthly)of the family of David and Adam. So where did this word, "supposedly" come from? Who put it there and why? |
Bible Answer: The NIV says "...He was the son, so it was thought, of Joseph,..." Luke 3:23 which I take to mean that those that did not believe in the virgin birth thought Joseph was biologically Jesus' father. |
