NASB | Luke 22:51 But Jesus answered and said, "Stop! No more of this." And He touched his ear and healed him. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Luke 22:51 But Jesus replied, "Stop! No more of this." And He touched the ear and healed him. |
Bible Question:
Might there be a prophetic overtone to this healing? I'm just wondering if there is more significance to this instance than meets the eye? Could the cutting off the ear suggest spiritual deafness? Since it was the ear of the servant of the Jewish High Priest, might we infer that he represents the Jewish nation that chose to not follow Jesus as Messiah? And the healing of the ear by Jesus . . . might this be a picture of the future salvation of Israel mentioned in Romans 11? |
Bible Answer: Hi Mammapbs, We have no proof that that is the picture that Jesus would have made of it if He had had time. However, I think that it is a good reflection and for the system of study that I do, the Romans 13:8 is a perfect comparison. That is, if you would go along with Luke 22:51 and the rendering of the NASB in the margin. "But Jesus/ answered and said, 'Let Me at least do this,' and He touched his ear and healed him."
