Subject: A question of capitalization |
Bible Note: Hi Makarios, I appreciate your participation in this thread. Let's see if a look at the capitalization can be helpful for our understanding and for the glory of God. Luke 22:14, "And when the hour had come (He) reclined at the table, and the apostles with Him." Luke 22:27, "But (I) am among you as..." I think that unless all of the "one" or "he" words are in lower case, the verse is confusing. I believe that the sentence should read, "(I) am among you as the one who serves." I think the key is the "as one" in the sense that He is in the position of one who is serving the supper. If you aren't in agreement with me at all yet, please read Matthew 23:9 before replying. Visualize with me as I compare/contrast our ministers serving communion with Christ serving the bread and wine. Luke 22:16,17, "for I say to you, I/ shall never again eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God. And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, (He) said, "Take this and share it among yourselves." Hebrews 8:1, "Now the main point in what has been said is this: we have such a *High *Priest/, who has taken His seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a (*Minister) in the sanctuary, and in the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, not man." We have studied enough together, Makarios, that you will recognize my parentheses for comparison and in this last reference will notice a mixture of NKJ and NASB and capitalization changes starred for the NASB. Christ was as you have said the ultimate servant as He broke bread with His disciples. We'll have to say together also that He was the Servant of prophecy in Isa 42:1, NKJ, "Behold! My Servant whom I uphold, My Elect One in whom My soul delights!" That should be left for another thread perhaps. Also, John 15:13, "Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. You are My friends..." would be another good thread for us to consider. From the heart, Ray |
