Bible Question: Whom do you think was the disciple that Jesus loved Luke 21:7,20 |
Bible Answer: Aminat, I think you meant John 21:7,20 not Luke. John 21:7That disciple whom Jesus loved therefore said to Peter, "It is the Lord!" When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment, for he was stripped for work, and threw himself into the sea. 20Peter turned and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them, the one who had been reclining at table close to him and had said, "Lord, who is it that is going to betray you?" The best evidence that I've found to suggest that "the disciple Jesus loved" was John is that John's name appears in the synoptic gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke) approx. 20 times but is not mentioned directly in the gospel of John. If the author had been someone other than John, he would not have omitted his name. (The MacArthur Bible Commentary) John 21:24This is the disciple who is bearing witness about these things, and who has written these things, and we know that his testimony is true. I hope this answers your question, Coper |
