Bible Question: In John Elderidge's book "The Sacred Romance" he talks about the ultimate relationship with God as being much more than a Father/Child relationship ... i.e. God loves us with a romantic love. As a man, I cannot even begin to imagine this. Can you help clear my thinking on this point? |
Bible Answer: Since God said "Let Us make man in Our own image, according to Our likeness;" (Genesis 1:26)and He made us male and female, it can be reasoned that within the Godhead are components of both genders. Throughout Scripture, Israel is the "beloved of God" yet she went whoring after other gods. Who would rescue this "damsel in distress?" The King loved her with an Everlasting Love! He wanted her, but He couldn't come as a king, for He wanted her to love Him for Himself alone. You know the rest of the story! John Eldredge tells The Sacred Romance as a story of God's love and redepmtion for the object of His love - US! Bottom line is, at the beginning of Act III, on the night of the wedding, the bride was caught sleeping with the best man and the Groom wanted to marry her anyway! I encourage you to not stop or get hung up on the physical nature, for "The Sacred Romance" is inherently spiritual. Do continue on to read "The Journey of Desire and expecially written for men, "Wild at Heart." I have heard John speak and if you are interested, I will include in this thread, a copy of what I learned about the greatest love story ever told! |
