Bible Question:
I am trying to find out the year that Jesus was born. Someone told me the other day that AD and BC did not mean what I thought they meant and that Jesus could have been born BC 3. Can that be true? If so, then BC does not mean Before Christ Thanks for your help. |
Bible Answer: Greetings Becky1969, According to the current Hebrew calendar, we are presently living in the year 5764, that is, 5,764 years after the creation of the world. Many Christian scholars also believe that the earth is about 6,000 years old. Therefore, if we are truly living in the year 5764, then Christ came in the year 3761, or 3,761 years after the creation of the world. As for B.C. and A.D. (Anno Dimini "In the Year of Our Lord"), I have heard approximations up to 6 years before to up to 6 years after the "assumed" time of the birth of Christ. Noone knows the exact, specific date, although we do know the approximate date, within a few years. And that would most certainly suffice and justify "B.C." as being "Before Christ", since our calendar is not completely perfect, as we are not completely perfect, but it does reflect that the world was forever changed when Christ came into this world in that all of the days after His birth are numbered 'anew.'
