Bible Question: Was Jesus born in a stable (barn like structure) or a cave? And were there 3 magi (wisemen) or 30?? |
Bible Answer: Hi, Kiwibelle! My understanding is that caves were used as stables for Winter refuge of barn animals... The Bible is specific about the shepherds seeing finding the newly born babe in the manger (these shepherds were local); while the magi (which I suspect are thought of as three due to the offering to baby Jesus: gold, myrrh and frankincense) were foreigners, traveling great distances to witness the Birth of the King of the Jews! See: Luke 2:1-40 and Matthew 1:18 through 2:18--again, these particular Scriptural passages offer no conclusive statements as to the number of the magi, the exact location of the manger (barn-like building or cave) or the exact age of Jesus when the magi visited and when the Holy Family fled to Egypt.
