Bible Question:
Why oh why in the name of The Living God are you so defensive. I asked a very simple question. What is there about my question that is "Looking for a fight"? Your answer does not answer my question in any event. The facts are very clear. Verse 1 1 has been "TAKEN OUT" of Matthew 18 in the New International Version and I want to know W H Y?? This verse is in the original text and what right has ANY PUBLISHER to take this verse out. I am not in the least concerned or interested about the verse being in another chapter in another version of Gods sacred word, I want to know WHY WHY WHY is it taken out of this particular version?? The Book of Revelation is clear about anyone who adds to or takes away from Gods Word. |
Bible Answer: Greetings AG! May I address this issue? Not being familiar with how aware you are about the history of the text of Scripture, allow me to give a very simplified explanation. The Bible was not handed down to us in it's present form. What we have are thousands of manuscripts (some more complete than others) which sometimes disagree with one another. Thus, the question of why Mt. 18:11 was 'taken out' of the NIV is a tricky one because it may not have been there to begin with. :-) In this particular case, there are three variant readings in Mt. 18:11. 1) The oldest manuscripts do not include the verse at all. 2) Some manuscripts have it included, but they mostly date from the 9th and 10th centuries. 3) Other manuscripts have a completely different reading altogether. In the judgement of the textual critics, option 1 is the one which is closest to the original. I hope this helps! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
