Bible Question: Who are the lost sheep of israel? I thought we were to spread the word to all non Christians. Matt10 Jesus is talking to deciples but we are susposed to spread the word. Why did Jesus specify not to go to the gentiles or the smarians? but the lost sheep of Isarel? |
Bible Answer: All in God’s time, my friend. The Gospel was to go to the Jew first (Romans 1:16; 2:9,10, etc.). See the words of Paul and Barnabas (Acts 13:46). They said: “It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles”. You may also want to read Romans 11. You are correct, of course, that the Gospel is for everyone. And there are lost sheep in Israel (the Jews). And there are other sheep (John 10). And it was always God’s plan that there be one fold and one shepherd (Ephesians 2). But it was also in God’s plan that the Jews would have first dibs. Interesting (Isn’t it?) that they will have last dibs as well, after the Gentiles have had their chance. |
