Bible Question:
Luke 18:1-8 We know that the judge in this parable is unjust/unrighteous, for Jesus tells us so in vs. 6. But is the widow righteous? Does it even matter? I'd appreciate any comments on this. Humble Pi |
Bible Answer: In the parable as presented in context it doesn't matter if the only point is persistance. But it would be unlikely that Jesus would be trying to teach persistant prayer for an unrighteous request. Jesus himself before giving a model prayer to the disciples said not to pray as the Gentiles do because they think they will be heard because of there many words. William R. Herzog II approaches the parable different by taking it out of the context the Gospel writer presents it in. He takes it literally as an example of how a vulnerable widow might get justice in the midst of injustice. |
