Subject: Inerrancy of Scripture |
Bible Note: Just because a double negative, becomes a positive, as in, “I ant got no”, literally means, “I have some”, is no reason to use the same kind of logic, to say that two truths, make a lie, or two wrongs make a right, No matter how many “truths” we stack up, they are, and will always be, true: Just as, two wrongs, don’t make a right; the antipodal, or the, reverse of this, is, two rights, ‘indeed’ do not, make a wrong. This is what we would consider, an axiom; an unarguable truth. As Christians, we believe that, “The Bible” is the inerrant, infallible, all sufficient word of God. I hope we can agree that, inerrancy of Scripture, is not up for debate. Hopefully, and I earnestly pray, when we discuss God’s, holy, wonderful, amazing, mysterious ‘Word of Truth’, “The Bible”, The Gospel of ‘Jesus The Christ’; the whole, and sufficient counsel of Scripture; all sufficient to save, edify, rebuke, teach, and sanctify men, inerrancy; is not going to be anywhere near the table. It is of the utmost importance, indeed, it is vital, for our salvation, edification, sanctification, and spiritual growth, that we, when studying or discussing God’s wonderful love letter to man, “The Word Of God”; that we totally, and without reservation, accept, and, totally wrap our tiny, little, human, pea brains, around this concept/precept, of God’s truth: i.e. Scripture does not lie! No mater, how much, Scripture may seem to contradict itself, the “problem” is NOT Scripture, the “problem” is pride! Somehow, we, in our pride, think, we can, understand and explain all of Scripture, well, we cant! A good example of this is fond in these passages: Deut 29:29 "The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, that we may observe all the words of this law.” And: John 16:13 "But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. Now it appears that there is a contradiction here, i.e. on the one hand, God is saying that He will withhold some information from us, and, frankly, He really doesn’t have to tell us everything, after all, He is God, and He does as He pleases. But, on the other hand, He also seems to be saying that He will reveal “all” to us, but it cannot really say that, without, contradiction, and, fallibility in His word. So I would contend that what He is saying is “all” that He will “reveal” to us, is, the truth. Now I don’t know if this is exactly what is being said here, but is would make sense. Does the fact that a father, or mother of a child, withholds something from them to protect them from, giving them information that they know full well, the child just cannot understand and would therefore, only confuse them? Would that mean that that parent is not telling the truth, if they would say to that child that they will only tell that child the truth while not telling them everything? I don't think so. Now the problem with what I’ve just said, is, that it in no way closes the door on debate, and I doubt if it ever will. If we scrutinize it, we can then say, that by giving us these very verses, God is confusing us, indeed we can ask a good deal of questions, I don’t want to get into that, but I think we can say, It can indeed open the door on endless debate, as it is not spelled out in scripture ‘exactly’ what God is saying, all of the time. So, what do we do with these difficult parts of Scripture? First of all we can get of our spiritual high horse, and admit that none of us is privy to all of God’s mysteries, though what He will reveal to us is, only, the truth, i.e. Scripture does NOT lie! Rom 11:33 Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways! Luke 18:17 "Truly I say to you whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all." It’s interesting that this passage is in three of the four Gospels. It must be very important! And I don’t think it means to be childish, or silly, but pliable, teachable, and trusting. We must not use any part of Scripture, to try to explain away or change an obvious meaning in any other part! This only leads to heresy. |
