Bible Question: Was the parable in Luke 16 about a man named LAZARUS and the passage in John 11 about raising LAZARUS from the dead - Is the man LAZARUS one and the same or are they two different individuals? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Mark! I would say that they are not the same individuals. Luke 16:20 tells us that his Lazarus was a begger. The word in Greek in 'ptochos.' It refers to someone who is so poor or ill that they cannot work to earn a living. They also generally have no family to provide for them. They are utterly dependent upon alms to even survive. Thus, the Lazarus of John 11 would not fit. He seemed to be of at least moderate means and had a family, who could have provided for him. I hope this helps! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
