Bible Question:
GOD FORMED MAN OF THE DUST OF THE GROUND, AND BREATHED INTO HIS NOSTRILS THE BREATH OF LIFE AND MAN BECAME A LIVING SOUL. GENESIS 2:7 LIKEWISE, ACCORDING TO GOD'S WORD WHEN A MAN DIES THE REVERSE TAKES PLACE. THE DUST RETURNS TO THE GROUND IT CAME FROM, AND THE SPIRIT RETURNS TO GOD WHO GAVE IT. ECCLESIASTES 12:7 MY QUESTION IS: IS THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT TRUE OR FALSE? WHEN A PERSON DIES-WHETHER SAVED OR UNSAVED -HE GOES TO THE GRAVE TO AWAIT THE RESURRECTION. IT IS AT THE TIME OF THE RESURRECTION THAT A SEPARATION TAKES PLACE, WITH THE SAVED PERSON RECEIVING ETERNAL LIFE AND THE UNSAVED RECEIVING PERMANENT DEATH. PLEASE EXPLAIN? JIM BATTLES |
Bible Answer: Hi Jim, This statement would be false. Here are a few referrences for you to look at: In Luke 16, Jesus describes what happens as a rich man and a beggar both die. They go to a waiting place in the earth. This story is not a parable, it is told as narative, not as a parable. Also, in John 5:24 "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life. We have eternal life. We are not waiting to receive it. John reiterates this in 1 John, writing "so that you may know you have eternal life." (5:13) A search of "eternal life" will show you many passages where this type of statement is made. Also, in 1 Thess 5:9-10 For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him. Whether awake (alive to this world) or asleep (dead to this world) we live with Jesus. Our life will not be interupted. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |
