Bible Question: My daughter was Baptized at the age of 8. She knew what the meaning of it was and wanted to do it so we allowed her to be baptized. She went to live with her father and strayed away from the church, now coming back into my home she has joined church again, the same chuurch she was baptized in, they want her to be baptized again. Should she be baptized again or not??? |
Bible Answer: Hi Kokoa, I think Hank asked some good questions for you to consider, but I wanted to share what my husband and I did. We both were saved when we were young (I at 4 yrs old and he at 12), but we rebelled in our teen years. When we came back to the Lord we wanted to get rebaptized for personal reasons. We did and it was a real blessing. No one told us we had too, and I am sure we would have gone to heaven if we hadn't, but it was a glorious experience. I believe this really should be a personal choice. It can't hurt and if she feels like she needs to make a statement of closure on her past and declare a new way of living then maybe she should get rebaptized. There isn't anything in scripture that forbids it. There is one incident in Acts 19:2-5 where some disciples who had been baptized into John's baptism were rebaptized in the name of Jesus. However, this is a little different type of situation. The leadership may have good reasons for asking her to do this, and sometimes just submitting to the leadership says a lot about a person's committment. Heb. 13:17 Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with grief, for this would be unprofitable for you. Bottom line is...this should be between her and Jesus. Have her pray and ask God what he would have her do. Hope this helps, Bows44 |
