Bible Question: My daughter was Baptized at the age of 8. She knew what the meaning of it was and wanted to do it so we allowed her to be baptized. She went to live with her father and strayed away from the church, now coming back into my home she has joined church again, the same chuurch she was baptized in, they want her to be baptized again. Should she be baptized again or not??? |
Bible Answer: kokoa, I must say that this situation with the church wanting to re-baptize your daughter strikes me as singularly odd. In all my 56 years as a Christian I've never seen a case that quite parallels it. Does this denomination that wants to baptize your daughter a second time hold to baptismal regeneration, i.e., that baptism is necessary to salvation? How old is your daughter now? How does she feel toward this request? Has the pastor given you or your daughter any reason for the re-baptizing? Are you a member of this same church? These questions are meant for your consideration and not necessarily to be answered on this Forum. Above all, I'd most certainly want to know the scriptural basis for this re-baptizing business. Of course, as you may know, there are some denominations that will not accept the baptism by other denominations. But in the same denomination and the very same congregation of that denomination? I'm afraid I don't understand that. --Hank |
