AMPLIFIED 2015 | Luke 14:26 "If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life [in the sense of indifference to or relative disregard for them in comparison with his attitude toward God]--he cannot be My disciple. |
Bible Question: luke14;26...this verse must have a different meaning...i dont understand,,,hate your family?? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Wejlly, Luke 14:26 "If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father, mother, wife, children, brothers, and sisters, as well as his own life, he can't be my disciple." (ISV) Basically, nothing must come before you and God. Christ must be loved over and above anything else, or He is not loved at all. If we are not willing to give up all earthly possessions, and forsake all earthly friends, and if we do not obey him rather than all others, we have no true attachment to him. Luke 14:26 does not justify malice against one's own family in any way, but only that devotion to family must take second place to one's devotion to Christ. I hope that this helps! Blessings to you, Makarios |
