Subject: From Towers to Tsunamis |
Bible Note: In the light of the current disaster in the Indian Ocean, it is time to remember these words of Christ. Natural disasters are part of this world. Just as there are specific instances of grace, there are specific instances of suffering. God dispenses both as He sees fit -- always for His ultimate glory. When Christ commented on this accident of the "tower of Siloam" He was discussing just this point. We humans are always trying to ask "Why?" Christ refused to answer the why question. If Christ refused to answer it, then we ought not press the point. Instead, Christ focuses our attention to our relationship to a sovereign God. The 18 that were killed were most likely purifying themselves in the pool when the tower fell. The point is that every one of us are a single microsecond away from facing our holy Judge, the Lord.
