I work with a man that has tried to answer this for me and I don't like his answer. I asked him to explain this to me. Luke 12:51-53 (King James Version) 51Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? It means that we have come upon an area that must be conquered by the truth. In the passage you are asking about, Christ is speaking to his disciples. He is assuring them that the institution of the Church -- the invisible Body of Christ -- is being done in the midst of a fallen world who hate the truth. The life of a true disciple of Christ is one that will encounter all kinds of opposition from the world (Luke 21:17; 1 Peter 4:12; 2 Timothy 3:12).
