Bible Question: What is the Bibles position on use of psychoactive herbs/compounds for worship service? I have found many websites that speak of them in Holy Anointing Oils;cannabis sativa, salvia divinoram, wild dagga,etc... I understand word regarding moderation/excessive use...thanx |
Bible Answer: Hi, Thom 02! Our model for prayer is Jesus! When we read the Gospels we find that He was constantly praying... constantly seeking the Father... constantly teaching, through example how and what we are to do! Not once is there a reference to any type of enhancement psychoactive or otherwise... in the fifties, sixties, and seventies there were many cults that relied heavily on one type of drug or another or even a concoction of several types... some Indians (aborigines) are said to use local herbs and other natural based extracts to reach "high planes of enlightenment"--I believe that it is still practiced in the Orient... Scripture is very clear on the issue of being under the influence of anything (alcohol, magic, divination, spiritism...); anything that taps into our subconscious opens up a window of opportunity for Satan who operates under the guise of an angel of light... Forget about external enhancements... you already have the bounty of God in you, if you are a servant of Christ... for you have been saved to be a prisoner of the flesh and the concupiscence of the flesh but to abide in God's Holy Spirit. (Titus 3:3-8) The only thing we need to get closer to God is humility and obedience... we must allow the Holy Spirit to enhance our Faith and our understanding of God's Will for our lives and for the edifying of the Church: In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will. (Romans 8:26-27) The Holy Spirit is all the help we need (John 14:16-23). God Bless! Angel |
