Bible Question:
I am a person who is trying to find faith or answers to help me find a way. Yesterday a very outspoken (putting it nicely) religous, bible pushing type told me that I was beyond help and he told me that there is a passage in the bible which states "if a person cannot be helped then you must wipe your feet of there existance and walk away from them" Does this passage in fact exist and if not then how can someone just do that when a person truly wants to find something??? Hence the screenname Mystified |
Bible Answer: Dear Mystified - Truly your encounter with the Bible-thumper was unfortunate. This judgmental buffoon stepped in where even angels fear to tread! No man has the wisdom, knowledge, authority, insight or revelation to make such a foolish statement as he made to you, that you are beyond help. Salvation is within the province of God alone, and in all the annals of the history of His dealings with mankind has He ever delegated it to any created being. To characterize what this person told you by any other name than pure rubbish would be to give him far more credit than he deserves. ..... The Lord Jesus in His Sermon on the Mount (see Matthew 5) told His hearers, "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled" (Matthew 5:6) ..... "Jesus said to them, 'I am the bread of life; he who believes in Me will never thirst'" (John 6:35) ..... "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:16). ...... "The Spirit and the bride say, 'Come.' And let the one who hears say, 'Come.' And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost" (Revelation 22:17. ...... In the sixteenth chapter of Acts you will find the account of a jailer of Phillipi who asked the Apostle Paul and his assocdiate Silas the most important question any person could ever ask. Said the jailer, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" And they, Paul and Silas, said "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household." That question, sir, is still being asked today and the answer is still exactly the same as it was when Paul and Silas gave it to the Philippian jailer long ago. ..... Hear Paul the Apostle as he speaks again in Romans 10:9-11: "If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. For the Scripture says, 'Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed.'" ..... My friend, believe what God says in His word and pay no attention to what the "outspoken, Bible-pushing type" told you. This poor chap couldn't save your soul even if he tried and no matter how hard he tried, for all who have been saved and all who ever will be saved are saved by the grace of God through faith in His Son Jesus Christ. It is not man's doing but it is of God. And it is not the result of man's works either, so that no one may boast. (See Ephesians 2:8,9). The Gospel -- which means the 'good news' of our Lord Jesus Christ -- and it alone is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes. ..... "Repent and believe in the gospel" (Mark 1:15). I pray that you will be led by the Spirit of God to do just that. --Hank |
