Bible Question: If I'm correct don't jews believe that Jesus was not not God's son and wasn't Jesus a jew than why was Jesus called king of the jews please inform me if I'm wrong |
Bible Answer: Hi, onewaytriple7! There are various Bible passages that explain this. The most congruent are Luke 1:32-33 and Isaiah 9:7 (since Luke is basically quoting Isaiah). We must understand that there were two groups of people in Israel when Jesus walked the earth: the true devoted people of God (which could be said to be Yahweh's remnant) and the religious people of God (the remaining people of Israel). Those who listen to God and allowed the Holy Spirit to guide them to Jesus, as Mary's relative, Elizabeth, and her husband, Zechariah, the shepherds, Simeon, the old man at the Temple, Anna the old prophet, the eleven disciples, Lazarus and his sisters Martha and Mary, and so on...--these, and those who would follow them, understood or would eventually understand that Joshua (the Anointed) was that seed of David whose kingdom would have no end. Those who employed their worldly wisdom and intelligence to define Jesus and what He offered them... they certainly did not accept Him as anything but a threat to their way of life! This is why it was easy for the masses to yell to Pontious Pilot that they had no other king but Caesar. Understand that though the Roman empire controlled the Jews, the Jewish people were forced into submission; had they had a choice they would have opted for their complete independence, which would have included their own leadership (ie: king).
