Bible Note: Ed, remember the one-word slogan "THINK" that Thomas Watson brought from National Cash Register to IBM when he joined IBM years ago? In 1914, I believe it was. Then some wag came along later with a knock-off of Watson's slogan. It read, "Before you louse things up, THIMK." Our Lord Jesus had a unique way of straight thinking and teaching that got to heart of things very quickly. And as you pointed out in your post, He was a master at asking just the right questions that would cause others to think. I fear, Ed, that a lot of what parades as Christianity today is based more on emotional appeal -- on such adulterations of Bible-based faith as feel good-ism, easy believe-ism, name it and claim it nonsense, liberalism and humanism -- than on the kind of sound biblical doctrine that demands serious thought about spiritual matters. So much of Christianity today is nominal. To an alarming degree the sovereignty of God has been set aside and replaced by the sovereignty of man. The belief in the absolute authority and inerrancy of Scripture is no longer held by many in both the pulpit and pew. Yet these two things, the sovereignty of God and the absolute authority and inerrancy of His word, form the bedrock foundation upon which the church rests if it is to be the church of Jesus Christ. By the way, your answers to my questions about the sovereignty of God were most excellent and I thank you for your fine contribution. --Hank |
