Bible Question:
my question is concening Mark Chapter 9: 14-29 what was Jesus trying to let them know their was little faith and a lot of doubt. |
Bible Answer: Jesus' exclamation, "O faithless generation!" (Mark 9:19) doubtlessly was directed to the disciples, who were unable to cast the mute spirit out of the man's son (v.18); but not to the disciples only, but to the father of the spirit-possessed son, the unbelieving scribes who likely took great pleasure in the disciples' failure (v.14), and to skeptical Israel in general. In Jesus' summation of this episode (v.29), He emphasizes the power of prayer. Possibly the disciples' inability to cast out the mute spirit came about because they rested on the laurels of their earlier successes (see Mark 6:13) and neglected to draw upon divine power through prayer. Jesus was never pleased with those of little faith. "Without faith it is impossible to please Him." (Hebrews 11:6) --Hank |
