NASB | Mark 8:34 ¶ And He summoned the crowd with His disciples, and said to them, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Mark 8:34 ¶ Jesus called the crowd together with His disciples, and said to them, "If anyone wishes to follow Me [as My disciple], he must deny himself [set aside selfish interests], and take up his cross [expressing a willingness to endure whatever may come] and follow Me [believing in Me, conforming to My example in living and, if need be, suffering or perhaps dying because of faith in Me]. |
Bible Question: What does it mean to take up your cross or take up your cross daily? |
Bible Answer: Scripture ... Matt 10:38, 16:24; Mark 8:34; Luke 9:23 ... God's day to you, In His Glory, and welcome to the SBF, When Jesus spoke these words, all knew that when they saw someone carrying (bearing) a cross, they were on the way to their own death ... including Jesus (John 19:17), with the exception of Simon of Cyrene who bore Jesus' cross (Mark 15:21). We have cheapened its meaning to include going thru a tough time. It only means going to death ... it could be your phyiscal death or some think to put your old spirit of sin to death. Searcher |
