AMPLIFIED 2015 | Mark 8:34 ¶ Jesus called the crowd together with His disciples, and said to them, "If anyone wishes to follow Me [as My disciple], he must deny himself [set aside selfish interests], and take up his cross [expressing a willingness to endure whatever may come] and follow Me [believing in Me, conforming to My example in living and, if need be, suffering or perhaps dying because of faith in Me]. |
Bible Question: when Paul says "I die daily"is that a reference to him having to play a part in his walk with God or is that the outer man he is referring to??? |
Bible Answer: Let's refer to Mark 8:34- "When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, "Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me." "Most Christians today do not realize how important weakness, failure, discouragement, disappointmnet, suffering, testing, and trials are in the development of their Christian life. Through these dealings of God our natural sinful pride is being dealt with. God calls us away from ourselves so that through burying, rejecting, and denying self we may turn in faith unto our Lord Jesus and experience his life, peace, joy, and power." -Don Matzat (Christ-esteem, pg.79) In order to follow Christ, we must deny our sinful selves because it is because of sin we are here to suffer and die. But after Christ's death for us on the cross, He paid the price for us so that we are no longer going to hell. By belieiving in Christ, our sinful selves died on the cross along with Him and now we're living a new life under Christ, our Savior. So to die daily is to make sure that you are following God and what He has for you. Don't be selfish or live in sin, because God is our Savior, and we live for Him. we are dead in our sinful selves, and we should as 1 Corinthians 1:30 Paul writes "It is because of him (God the Father) that you are in Christ Jesus!" We are living under Jesus now with Him as the focus of our lives, not ourselves as the focus. In that passage, Paul was refering to his transition from his sinful self to a Christian. |
