Bible Note: Dear Mark, Sounds very denominational. I asked my opthamologist about this passage -- I have a deteriorative eye disease -- and he said that it didn't sound like a disorder of the eye, but rather a problem arising in the visual cortex... which, actually makes a lot more sense (sorry). You wrote, "Scholarly writings are no substitute for common sense reading of the scripture..." Uh... :-) ...common sense reading of the scripture is a hermeneutical principle founded in exegetical scholarship. Come to think of it, reading is founded in scholarship! I'll tell you what... show me common sense in "speaking in tongues" and I'll show you common sense in scholarship. :-) In Him, Doc |
