Bible Question:
This question is to searcher56. You can't give ONLY part of the definition. This is STRONGS CONCORDANCE: baptizo (bap-tid'-zo) TDNT Reference Root Word TDNT - 1:529,92 from a derivative of 911 Part of Speech verb Outline of Biblical Usage 1) to dip repeatedly, to immerse, to submerge (of vessels sunk) 2) to cleanse by dipping or submerging, to wash, to make clean with water, to wash one's self, bathe 3) to overwhelm So Why DIP IN WATER. BECAUSE THE BIBLE SAYS SO. |
Bible Answer: Luk 11:38, Heb 9:10, Rev 19:13 ... You are correct, however to claim that the mode of baptism is (baptism means) immersion, or submerge is incorrect. Read the above verses, I think wash(ing)(s) would be a better translation for baptizo and its kin The way I read Acts 8:38-39, I see that both went into the water and came out ... and it does not say there was the eunuch was immersed, dunked or dipped, it is possible he and Philip were submerged together. We do not know how deep the water was. |
