Bible Question: What insights, background information, etc. do you have about Mark 6:7-13? |
Bible Answer: One thing to keep in mind when we read these verses is that one of the 12 was Judas. He was given the same powers and abilities as the others. Jesus’ reason for sending His disciples out was not to change the world but to teach them who He was. In Luke 10:18 He said to them, "I watched Satan fall from heaven like a lightning flash. 19 Look, I have given you the authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy; nothing will ever harm you. 20 However, don't rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven." 21 In that same hour He rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, "I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the wise and the learned and have revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, because this was Your good pleasure. 22 All things have been entrusted to Me by My Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son desires to reveal Him." We can get carried away with the power of God when it is our relationship with God that is important. Jesus qualifies the true believer in Matt 7:21 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord!' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to Me, 'Lord, Lord, didn't we prophesy in Your name, drive out demons in Your name, and do many miracles in Your name?' 23 Then I will announce to them, 'I never knew you! Depart from Me, you lawbreakers!' Hope this helps,, Phil |
